When the Wachowskis released the first Matrix film, it was obvious that this was a universe that was too interesting not to return to again and again. In addition to the trilogy of films, there are a number of other projects that tie in to the Matrix timeline. You don’t have to enjoy them in order, of course, but together they create a much larger portrait of a world. Some of the different projects showcase minor stories or characters on the outskirts of the films, or that never appeared in the trilogy at all. In one, the player is responsible for making up part of the story as they go along. Even if you didn’t find the later sequels to be as riveting as the original, we recommend checking out some of the stories listed below. You may find yourself drawn back into the Matrix all over again. The Animatrix (2003): While the collection features nine different short films, a two-part feature (“The Second Renaissance“) serves as a prequel of sorts to the main trilogy. The Matrix (1999)The Matrix Comics, Vol. 1 (2003): These stories largely take place before or during the first film. The Matrix Reloaded (2003)Enter the Matrix (video game, 2003): This game takes place parallel to The Matrix Reloaded. The Matrix Revolutions (2003) The Matrix Comics, Vol. 2 (2005): These stories take place at various points during the trilogy .The Matrix: Path of Neo (video game, 2005): This game recreates the events of the trilogy. The Matrix Online (video game, 2005): This online game takes place after the trilogy.
